Announced Hahima Abdul Hamid service marine parks that "nine of the 83 dive sites in the country closed" until the end of October. These coral reefs, especially around the islands of Redang and Teoman attract approximately 500 000 tourists annually.
The aim of the closure is to allow the regeneration of coral without hampered tourism activities such as scuba diving. And get coral bleaching when exposed to stress, which may be the result of high water temperature, may lead to atrophy of coral reefs along the large areas. According to the expert Malaysian Abdul Beauty Medin, 60 to 90% of coral was damaged in some areas.
Malaysia is one of six countries in Asia and the Aokiena pledged in 2009 to promote protection of the "Coral Triangle", an area of freedom of a vast space between the Pacific and Indian Oceans called "Amazon Sea" because it is characterized as diversity of marine species in the world.
This area does not constitute only 1% of land area but contain 53% of coral reefs in the world, and 75% of the races coral, and more than three thousand a genus of fish. That did not take emergency measures, particularly to combat climate warming, "coral reefs will disappear in + triangle + before the end of this century", it warns the Global Fund for Nature.
